Painting over Scrapbook Paper Tutorial

This technique is a great way to create beautiful paper out of scrapbook paper or color book pages that you migbht not necessarily use.

Ingredients
Scrapbook paper or color book page
Light body acrylic paint - Three coordinating colors, white and black.  I used dylusions paints.
Stencils or stamps in bold designs.  I used several Tim Holtz stencils.
Blending tool
Heat tool or patiences

Steps

1.  Using a blending tool, apply color to page in several different areas.  I used 3 colors tht coordinated well. 

2. Dry between colors to minimize mixing colors.  I used a heat tool.

3.  With stencils and black acrylic paint, stencil random spots around the painted paper.  Let dry  I used 3 different Tim Holtz.  Let dry.

4.  Repeat with stencils and white acrylic paint.  Let dry.

One little tag craft challenge #305

On a shipping tag, adhere a torn piece of vintage text paper.  Let dry.  Stamp cat(Hero Arts) with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Scribble black and orange watercolor crayons around the tag around cat image.  Lay a stencil(Tim Holtz) over the tag and with a baby wipe create a ghosting technique.  Let dry.  Stamp sentiment(Art C) on a bit of vintage text paper with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Adhere with washi tape.

One little tag craft challenge #304

Tear strips of vintage text pages and adhere to shipping tag.  Let dry and then with gesso create the white wash effect.  Let dry.  Stamp Crow(Art Foamies) on tag with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Color around the crow with watercolor crayon.  With a stencil(Tim Holtz) and a baby wipe remove the watercolor crayon to create a ghosting effect.  Stamp Imagine(Stampendous) stamp repeatedly with Archival Ink Jet Black.  On a piece of vintage text stamp eye(Art Foamies) with Archival Ink Jet Black, color with watercolor crayon and accent with acrylic paint in a fine liner.  Tear out and adhere to tag.  

One Little Tag Craft Challenge #297

On a shipping tag, create a background using the baby wipe stencil.  With the stencil over the tag, rub a baby wipe with some acrylic paint over the stencil.  Here a Tim Holtz Stencil was used with light blue acrylic paint. Stamp the sentiment (Stampendous)  with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Cut out color book and adhere to the tag.

On a shipping tag, stencil spiderweb(Tim Holtz) using two colors of Dylusions paints.  Let Dry.  Stamp images(Tim Holtz) with Archival Ink Jet Black.

Spread gesso onto a shipping tag through a stencil (Tim Holtz) and let dry.  Spray with dylusions sprays (Cut Grass) and let dry.  Stamp image (Lost Coast Designs) with Archival Ink Jet Black on tissue paper.  Cut out and adhere to tag.  Print out quote on P-Touch and adhere to tag.

Apply white acrylic paint through a stencil (Tim Holtz) onto a manila tag.  Let dry.  Spray with color spray (Recollections) and let dry.  With black acrylic paint and a stencil (Dina Wakley) stencil the woman's image.  Let dry.  Paint wood veneer bird blue and speckle with white paint, let dry.  Adhere bird, washi tape and stickers to tag.

On a piece of text, scribble several color of watercolor crayons and activate water.  Using a Tim Holtz triangle stencil ghost the images.  Let dry.  Stamp image (Lost Coast Designs) in archival ink. Using the China Marker/Pencil technique, create hearts in white.

On a piece of vintage text paper stencil dots(Tim Holtz) using blue acrylic paint.  Let dry and adhere to shipping tag.  Stamp flower image(Stampington) on white tissue paper and adhere to tag.  Stamp peach image repeatedly on the tag.  All stamping was done with Archival Ink Jet Black.

Using a stencil (Tim Holtz) and distress markers in several colors create a background  on a vintage music sheet.  Adhere to shipping tag.  Stamp image (Invoke) on white tissue paper with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Adhere to tag.  Adhere label sticker to tag.  Outline with water soluble graphite pencil and blend with water.

Color a tag with watercolor crayon and activate with water.  Let dry.  Stencil Chevron(Tim Holtz) with purple acrylic paint.  Let dry.  Stamp all images with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Sentiment is from Tim Holtz, manin image is from Stampington and the sun design is from Recollections.

On a shipping tag, create a background using a stencil(Tim Holtz), watercolor and a baby wipe.  Let dry.  Stamp all images with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Sentiment is from Graphic 45.  Color dog(Tim Holtz) with inktense pencils and activate with water. Color ground beneath dog to ground image.  Let dry.

One Little Craft Tag Challenge #177

Bacon Fest is a fund raiser for Aim at Melanoma.  The fundraiser is in memory of my aunt.  The tag is a journal tag for the day of Bacon Fest this year.  Here is the website for bacon fest  http://baconfestnw.com/

On a shipping tag, create background using the acrylic paint ghosting technique by painting the tag with black paint and then using a Tim Holtz stencil wipe away the paint.  Let dry.  Color the edges with red Viva Decor 3D Stamp Paint.  Apply strips of bacon washi tape across the tag.  Stamp sentiment on Tim Holtz labels and adhere to tag.  

One Little Tag Craft Challenge #146

On a manila tag, paint a thin layer of metallic kids paint (Prang).  Let dry.  Using the Stencil Color on Color technique create the star background.  Prang paint was used as well as Tim Holtz Stars Stencil.  Let dry.  Stamp all images with Archival Ink Jet Black.  The stamps are from inkadinkado.  

Two Stencil Technique Stencil Color on Color and Ghosting

Here are two tags that I made quickly with the same tools but got very different techniques.  I wanted to do something with this beautiful kids paint I have had in my stash for several years and never used it.  So this is what I came up with

Ingredients

Manila tag or other substrate

Acrylic, Watercolor, Dye Ink, or Other Water soluble medium.

- I used Prang Washable Metallic here but in the past of used several brands of acrylic paint.

Stencil.  I used Tim Holtz Stars

Paint Brush or Sponge Applicator

Non Stick Craft Mat

Not pictured 

- Baby Wipes

- Masking Tape

The first technique is what I stencil color on color. The colorant used does not have to be water soluble in this technique.  

1.  Color the tag.  Let dry.

2.  Tape tag to non stick craft sheet.  Tape stencil to craft mat.

3.  Using sponge applicator, pounce same color over the stencil.  Remove stencil

4.  Let dry.  

The second technique is called ghosting.  This one you must use some sort of water soluble colorant, like acrylic paint, watercolor or dye ink.

1.  Paint the tag.  

2.  While still wet, tape tag to non stick craft sheet and tape stencil to craft mat.

3.  Using a moist baby wipe rub the color up through the stencil.  

4.  Let dry.

On a manila tag, color watercolor crayons and activate with water.  Let dry.  Using a baby wipe, paint blue acrylic paint through a stencil (Tim Holtz) with a baby wipe.  Let dry.  Stamp quote on graph paper, stamp quote with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Tear around each word and then adhere to tag.  Stamp bird image (Stencil1) with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Spray with glitter spray.  

One LIttle Tag Craft Challenge #117

The challenge for this week on the One Little Tag Craft Challenge is adding fiber.  I don't often use fiber in my art so I have been struggling to keep up with this challenge.  I thought the rope from this stamp set qualified as fiber.  I know it is a stretch but hey I am an artist. 

Clean a stencil by pressing the wet paint a manila tag.  This will create a reverse ghost image.  Let dry.  All images are from Stencil1 and are stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black.  Stamp the star and anchor images first, then mask off using post-it notes before stamping rope image.  

One Little Tag Craft Challenge #94

The main image was created from a prompt of Cat Held's Mixed Media Morsels and inspired by a friend, Laurelle. Here is the video of Cat Held demoing the technique.  It is surprisingly easy but makes some dramatic paper.  I made about 5 pages of it in one setting.  I am sure it will show up in more of my tags.

Color a manila Tag with with metallic watercolor crayons.  Using a Tim Stencil and a baby wipe rub away the design creating a ghost image.  Create background text paper using the Mixed Media Morsel painted circle technique.  Using a Dylusions mask, cut out image of female from the created paper.  Adhere to tag. Outline with dashes using an india ink marker. Adhere a strip of the created paper along the edge.  Adhere the line from a book.  The line is "She thought of the love in the heathen woman's breast, from an Andersen's Fairy Tale. 

One Little Tag Craft Challenge #93

Stencil left over green acrylic paint over a manila card using a Tim Holtz stencil.  Let dry.  Using a Dylusions Mask, color over mask on a piece of text using water color crayons.  Outline image with india ink marker.  Stamp quote on old text paper, cut out and outline with an india marker.  Adhere to tag. 

One Little Tag Craft Challenge #75

 

This week's challenge from Craft Test Dummies is to use acrylic paint.  The background of this tag was completed the week before when the challenge was using stencils.  So bang, two challenges one tag. 

Gesso was applied to a manila tag.  Once dry, acrylic paint (Claudine Helmuth Studio Paints Smidge of Blue) was applied through a Tim Holtz stencil with a baby wipe.  Then image (Oxford Impressions) was stamped on tissue paper with Archival Ink Jet Black and applied to the tag.  Sentiment was stamped on notebook paper with Archival Ink Jet Black.
